Two trees will be planted on Tuesday, December 15th in Lower Scholl Canyon park in honor of Don Rector and Sharon Kelly Lee, both long-time residents of our canyon. The trees were donated by GOCHA in honor of Don and Sharon’s dedicated commitment to our community.
The ceremony for Don’s tree, a California Sycamore, will take place on Tuesday at 10:50am, immediately followed by the dedication of Sharon’s tree, a Toyon tree, at 11am. We hope to see you there.

Thanks to several of our canyon residents for providing some stunning photos of the fire and the efforts of our local firemen and women. I hope this helps archive and document the fire that threatened the homes in our canyon on August 4, 2009.
Glenoaks Canyon resident and GOCHA board member, Paul Chamberlain also wrote a nice piece that was published in the Glendale News/Press. You can read it here.
In addition to the photos here, there are some interesting videos that have been posted on Youtube. Be sure to click “more” to see the full post.

On Saturday 12/27 many residents in our canyon were evacuated from their homes from around 9:00 PM to 2:30 AM due to the discovery of the second car rented by Bruce Jeffrey Pardo (the Santa Claus Killer) parked on Glenoaks Blvd. The car was parked in the 2300 block of Glenoaks Blvd. near Tryon. For those nearby, it was a very unsettling and unexpected experience. While it turned out that there was nothing dangerous in the car, it was our diligent canyon neighbors that called police about the vehicle which had been suspiciously parked there for some time. Ghouls Night Out
This past Halloween, canyon trick or treaters received an extra something special when local residents and a generous contribution from GOCHA allowed for a stretch of Hollister Terrace between Edwards and Tryon to be closed to automobile traffic, making this popular area safe for our youngest goblins and super heroes to ply their candy grabbing skills. In addition, magic shows and costume contests rounded out the festivities making this past Halloween one of the most memorable in some time.
Special thanks to Eileen Young for getting the ball rolling.

Trick or Treat
We would like to know you thoughts on closing down the section of Hollister this past Halloween Should this be an annual Halloween event in the Canyon? Add a comment to this post and let us know.
