Bud Breaking Poppies at Zaca MesaCanyon resident and local artist, Nancy Wise and her husband Randy are wondering if there would be any interest in organizing a Glenoaks Canyon Art Show featuring artistic talent from our beautiful canyon. A professional artist, Nancy has been creating art for over 45 years and has lived in the canyon with her husband for the last 25 years.

Nancy is trying to gauge what kind of interest there would be in an event like this. If you are interested in possibly seeing something like this in the future, please email Nancy at nancy@winecountryartist.com.

Please note, at this time, this is not a GOCHA sponsored event.

Shakespeare by the Sea is returning to Glenoaks Park this summer on Thursday, August 2 for a 7pm performance of Romeo and Juliet.

The company was notified earlier this year that funding for this program had been completely cut.  Not to be daunted, SBTS organizers made the decision to return to Glenoaks Park and attempt to seek funding elsewhere to underwrite its $6500 per performance costs.  Four organizations have stepped forward with $250 each: Glenoaks Canyon Homeowners Association, Glendale Arts, Apollo Insurance and the Glendale Gateway Kiwanis.  Along with a smattering of individual donations, the company is still seeking an additional $4500 to underwrite its performance this season.  Without additional support from Glendale residents and business owners, the company may have to reevaluate Glendale as a viable performance location.

If you’d like to help SBTS continue performing in Glendale – donate to the organization today – as an individual or through your company or business.  If everyone who attended the performance made a $10 donation, SBTS would make their budget for Glendale and would return in 2013.

Donation opportunities are on their website:

Individuals: http://www.shakespearebythesea.org/bigfish.html

Businesses: http://www.shakespearebythesea.org/seasonsponsor.html

Shakespeare by the Sea has been performing in Glendale for the past 6 years and would like to continue to perform for the residents of Glendale, but without additional support, Glendale sits precariously on the edge of losing this valuable community event.

Feel free to contact Lisa Coffi, Producing Artistic Director lisa@shakespearebythesa.org if you have any questions or would like to offer support.

Dog Parade
June 2, 2012
1-4pm
Glenoaks Park

Yup, it’s that time of the year again when all the canyon K-9s can come out and show their stuff (and bring their humans too).

The Dog Parade will be held this Saturday, June 2nd from 1-4pm. As in past years we will have a costume contest, a contest to see who’s dog can do the best tricks, and the ever popular obstacle course. We will also be parading all of the neighborhood pups around the park for a fun-filled afternoon.

See you there.

Come in from the cold, share some holiday music and take a night off from cooking!  Join your neighbors and friends for a Holiday Caroling & Potluck Wednesday night, Dec. 21, from 6-8 p.m. at the Chevy Chase Library.  The Chevy Chase Estates Association will supply the pizza and hot drinks, and side dishes, salads or desserts are welcome to help balance our potluck.  We’ll start with dinner and holiday stories, then serenade our brave firefighters next door with some holiday carols.  Finally, we’ll come back to the library for dessert and crafts, or just visiting with  neighbors and friends.  All ages (and singing abilities) are welcome.

For those of us with school kids in Glendale Unified, this is the last day of school before winter night, so there won’t be any homework, and the kids can sleep in the next day.  So, come join the fun and stock up on those books and DVDs for Winter Break!
